OMG....look at the state of my shop!
As they say, things always get far worse before they get better.

The door and window frames have now been fitted using iroco wood which will last at least twice as long as pine. They have been made by a local carpenter called Roger (0034 619 607 835). I'm using a Spanish builder to organise all the electrics, plastering, plumbing and stud wall building. I think I might be laying the tiled floor in the basement, as well as all the tiling and mosaicing in the small bathroom and kitchen, also downstairs.

I employed an engineer as there are lots of building regulations I need to adhere to and they are especially important in a shop. For example, the main entrance doors need to open out into the road so that if there is a fire, people can run straight out and not have to pull the doors open. I also need a wheelchair ramp on the front patio. I started using an English electrician but decided to 'get rid' after he repeatedly failed to do what he said he was going to do. I've never known anyone take a month to collect their pay! Anyway, it's a good job I did switch as had I not, I would have ended up installing an electric shower which is illegal in Spain, as well as use outdated electrical tubing. There are lots of little details which you'd never think about if you didn't employ an engineer. It's also a legal requirement in Spain so I'm pleased it's all going to be legitimate.

My shop is located on the left hand side, half way up the pedestrianised street in the photo. This has to be the quietest commercial street in Ibiza. Every time I've told someone I've bought a shop there, they've double checked! Most people ask 'Isn't that the street where no-one goes?'

Hmmmm...........they will see....one day there will be busy shops, a street market, street performers and fountains..........
Fingers crossed!!!
