MY LIFE IN IBIZA

Eight years ago I had nothing. Now, I am the proud owner of a little antique and vintage shop in San Carlos, Ibiza, called Lottie Bogotti...the ecological answer to extravagance. Read my blog entries to find out how working your socks off can make your dreams come true.

Who inspires you?

San Jordi car boot sale is my faourite stock hunting ground but after spending four hours dragging myself and my bootie around the racetrack today, I was sun burnt, thirsty, heat struck and lacerated in various areas. I was also a bit peed off due to losing my prescription sunglasses.

On leaving the grounds, I stopped dead in my tracks. There, sitting on a sheet on the ground, was a man with no legs playing the flute. His music was accompanied by a backing track and amplified by speakers. He had his equipment laid out on the sheet alongside a large brolly and his wheelchair. He had just enough leg length to keep himself in a sitting position.

I gave him fifty cents and got back to my car as soon as I could. It took me a few minutes to compose myself so I didn't start crying. I didn't feel sorry for him; I was amazed by him and it really choked me. I was amazed he'd managed to get himself and his equipment there, amazed at his professionalism, amazed by his calm composure, amazed he'd found a way to be independent, amazed by his smiling face....

I've realised that some people are amazed by what I have done and maybe people will continue to find this blog and be amazed. Not everyone will but not everyone would be amazed by the flautist. Some people are amazingly unimpressionable!

Maybe 'amazed' is the wrong word. Maybe 'inspired' is better. If I can inspire people to do things differently to positively affect their lives, my blog has value no matter what anyone else says. Both I and my life are far from perfect but my story could make a perfect motivator to some. Besides, I like writing and even while the blog was on hold I continued to write stories in my mind.

Here is a very useful tool I discovered recently...

you ARE amazing!! you have constantly amazed me over the past few months since i discoverd your blog. I'm so pleased you have found the strength to carry on and I, and many others, will be thrilled to read again about your journey through life.
By the way, as the mother of a very headstrong, smart, stubborn, hyperactive girl all i can say to you is....it WILL get better!! I can barely look back at photos of Lulah aged 1,2,3 as it reminds me too vividly of what a handful she was and how I was on the verge of a nervous breakdown the whole time. She will be 10 this autumn and she is a joy to spend time with - people always comment on her vivacity and confidence and sociability. Starting school made a huge difference to her - and to me! Just don't let her get the upper hand with you, no matter how tiring it is to stay in charge all the time.
Best of luck Hannah. I really wish you well. We have just bought a house in Ibiza and I will be there in October. I will try to come over to San Carlos and pay you a visit...it would be great to meet the amazing person who inspires me!

It was lovely to finally meet you Cheryl. You were exactly as I was expecting :) xxx

....

Hi Anon....it is already getting better as she now brushes my hair (I loved having my hair brushed), puts things in the bin for me, gets things out of the fridge on request and puts the cutlery away. I think a lot of the problems have been due to her desperately wanting to do what I do. Now that she can do more of what I do she is less frustrated and less naughty. Pop in for a chat. x

............

Es Cubells.....it's nice to know of someone else on the island who likes my blog. I think the fors are definitely out waying the againsts now ;)

..............

Ade....I'm so predictable! Hey, when I said I wanted to give you the bumps I meant the bumps ok? Don't go getting all excited and shaving your shoulders! See you Friday if I can find a sitter. One asked two to go.

Hi Hannah, I just wanted to say how lovely it is to know that you're still here and blogging.
I fell in love with Ibiza when I was younger and reading your blog takes me there, even though I'm sat in cold, gloomy Newcastle! I love to read your stories and hear about Lottie and your wonderful shop.
You keep your chin up petal - you're doing an amazing job.
Becca x
