Whatever happened to the friendly Bobby?
In the link you will find a video showing the CCTV footage of the war hero being beaten by the police in Wigan. Had these police officers been armed with taser guns, they would no doubt have used them as well as the beating. And what was his crime? Being drunk and standing in the road.
Not only were the police collectively brutal but the magistrates did not notice the police brutality. How could they not have noticed and at the same time convicted this man for doing nothing wrong? Britain is wanting to crack down on drinking but parliament first needs to change laws and then the police need to enforce them. Now, it seems, the police have the power to arrest people for doing nothing wrong and to administer their chosen punishment.
Fortunately for Britain's daft drunks of the future, something may start to be done about the Police State of Britain now that MPs are being cuffed and their homes and offices are being searched simply for being the opposition to the government. Jacqui Smith, no doubt the mastermind of extra police 'powers' and heavy handed dealings with dissenters, recently stated that Ministers' first duty was to 'uphold the independence of police'....not the independence of Parliament.
If police are routinely going beyond their remit, and magistrates are backing unlawful police actions, that must mean they are being trained to do so. Link
